After the construction the Metro’s orange line, Clarendon became known for it’s cool mix of boutique shops, trendy bars and hip ethnic restaurants. Although with the construction of the Market Common Clarendon, many of the locally owned establishments have given way to national names like Barnes and Noble, Crate and Barrel and Apple Store, Clarendon retains it’s funky spirit. In fact, an organization called the Clarendon Alliance is dedicated to keep Clarendon weird! We often counsel our clients that when it comes to condominiums, from an investment standpoint, a condo in Clarendon is hard to beat. We feel this way because of two basic principals, supply and demand. In looking at demand, Clarendon is simply where the majority of the people who walk through our doors want to live. As for supply, there are only four condo buildings in the heart of Clarendon. These include Clarendon 1021, Station Square, The Phoenix and The Hartford. There are two major townhome clusters in Clarendon. Located just behind the Market Commons Clarendon is Clarendon Park, which was constructed by EYA circa 2001 and feature some cool architecture. On the opposite side of Clarendon, just across Kirkwood Road from Sport & Health is Bromptons at Clarendon. These unique row homes boast two-car garages and have a stately presence with their unique brick facades and wood doors. Residents of Clarendon never grow tired of dining options. Without going into lengthy descriptions, some of our favorites are Restaurant 3, The Boulevard Woodgrill, La Tacsa, Faccia Luna, Mexicali Blues, Sette Bello and Harry’s Tap Room. A short walk down Washington Blvd from the heart of Clarendon is Tallula, which is a wonderful remake of a former favorite water hole (as “in the wall”) called Whitey’s. Clarendon teems with bar and nightlife options. To mention a few, we recommend checking out Whitlow’s on Wilson, Iota Club and Café, Ri Ra, Clarendon Grill, eleventh, Liberty Tavern, and of course, The Clarendon Ballroom. One wonderful way to pass the time in Clarendon is to grab a nice cup of coffee at Murky Coffee and dive into your favorite book or newspapers, surf the internet on their free wi-fi and just people watch. Spend an hour to two each week at this place and you shouldn’t have to worry about Clarendon not being weird enough! |
